Steam-distilled from the heartwood dust and shavings of sandalwood trees grown all over the continent, Sandalwood Oil East Indian is one of the oldest known perfume materials in the world. Prized for its soft, sweet, and woody odor, sandalwood has been used in fragrance for over 4,000 years; references to the tree’s fragrance can be found within ancient Sanskrit and Chinese manuscripts. Upon dry down, East Indian sandalwood oil becomes ambery and balsamic, adding even more contrast to this remarkable ingredient. The oil’s tenacity, coupled with its unique and complex odor, laid the foundation for many modern perfumes and fine fragrances, making sandalwood a historic component of our industry.
