Valerian Root Oil

Description

A native product of Asia and Eastern Europe, Valerian Root Oil is steam-distilled from the rhizomes of the Valeriana officinalis plant. The oil has since spread to much of Europe, where it grows wildly in regions such as France, England, and Scandinavia. Valerian root oil’s aroma is warm and woody, with a refreshingly green and camphoraceous top note. Over time, the oil’s odor shifts into a balsamic, almost animalistic drydown. This complexity, paired with valerian’s prevalence throughout key growing regions, has made the oil a staple of woody and earthy perfumery. Valerian root oil is also found in certain flavor applications, where it imparts a warm and dry nuance to products such as root beer, apple candies, and chewing tobacco.
